Frequently asked questions

No. This tool provides an educational financial estimate only. It does not constitute immigration advice, legal advice, or a visa eligibility decision. Always consult a qualified immigration adviser and check the official GOV.UK guidance before making an application.

No. This tool cannot and does not guarantee any visa outcome. A visa decision is made by the Home Office based on many factors beyond finances. This is an educational estimate only.

Under current GOV.UK guidance, you generally need to hold the required funds for at least 28 consecutive days. The end of that 28-day period usually needs to fall within 31 days of the date you submit your visa application. Verify the exact rules on GOV.UK for your visa type.

If you have been in the UK with a valid visa for at least 12 months immediately before applying, you may be exempt from proving the maintenance requirement. Your situation is marked as "complex" in this tool and you should verify the current rules on GOV.UK.

For the Skilled Worker visa, your employer may certify on your Certificate of Sponsorship that they will maintain and accommodate you. If they do, you may not need to show the £1,270 personal maintenance funds. Check your CoS and GOV.UK guidance.

Dependants who apply with you or join you require additional maintenance funds. This tool includes the standard dependant amounts from GOV.UK guidance. The amounts are: partner £285, first child £315, each additional child £200. Check GOV.UK for the latest figures.

This tool currently covers the Student visa and Skilled Worker visa routes as an educational estimate. Graduate and Family visa routes have different and more complex financial requirements. They are not included in this version to avoid providing misleading estimates.
